A typical job for those on this qualification would be a mechatronics maintenance technician whose jobv is to ensure that plant and equipment perform to the required standard to facilitate production targets regarding safety, quality, delivery and cost. Workload often covers a broad range of activities including installation, testing, fault-finding and the ongoing planned maintenance of complex equipment. This requires the application of a blend of skills, knowledge, and occupational behaviours across electrical, electronic, mechanical, fluid power and control systems disciplines. It covers the relevant health and safety requirements to ensure that all aspects of the role can be carried out safely.
The candidate will work in business as an apprentice with day release at college on a four-year course to gather skills such as:
– Complying with statutory rules and organisational safety requirements
– Working efficently and effectively in advanced manufacturing and engineering
– Using and communicating technical information and data
– Demonstrating personal accountability and behaviours in an engineering environment
– Producing components using hand fitting techniques
– Wiring and testing electrical circuits
– Producing C.A.D models and drawings
– Preparing and proving C.N.C machine tools
Units will change in the 3rd and 4th year to more advanced ones agreed upon with individual employers to offer bespoke training to meet the needs of different customer bases.
After successful completion, many apprentices remain employed with the company and move onto Level 4 Engineering qualifications, for example, HNC/HND.
Learners must be at least 16 years old. You will need GCSEs Grade 9-4 (A-C) which must include English Language and Maths, or Level 2 Functional Skills equivalent.
The qualification is achieved when all the necessary units have been completed. We at Telford College deliver and assess a whole range of subjects and qualifications to support learners in these areas including EAL’s Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering.
All units are heavily loaded with taught input, both practical and theoretical. The structure is there to produce a rounded individual who is capable of working in a variety of situations and environments, which will be more attractive to
prospective employers in the future. We also ask that the company keeps training matrixes and that additional courses are offered where and when they are needed.
All the standards are delivered in College in conjunction with support in business from the assessment team.
Behaviours is a big area which is constantly monitored in college and with the individuals and their mentors.
