If you’re looking to work with children (from birth to five years old) and gain knowledge of those up to seven years old, then this course is designed for you. It includes 60% college-based and 40% practical work placements with continuous assessment. The course includes the physical, social, spiritual, moral and emotional care of children, play and structured learning, health issues, and food and nutrition – and if you complete it successfully, you’ll be an Early Years Educator. Practical sessions will also take place in our on-site childcare centre where we have toys and games you can familiarise yourself with before you go out on placement. You will be assessed through a combination of methods, including a visit from your assessor in placement giving you the opportunity to showcase your skills in a real-life setting. GCSE maths can be taken alongside this course.

Work placement opportunities:
Local nurseries and primary schools including SEN schools.
Progressing to: Level 3 extended diploma or jobs as early years educator, family support worker, learning mentor, teaching assistant or university-level studies
Aspirational careers: Nursery director/owner, senior teaching role, nanny to the stars
5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, one of which must be in English (Level 2 functional skills English also accepted) and a clean DBS check
You will need to have a DBS check (fully funded by the college) so please collate all the evidence needed prior to starting the course. As part of our enrichment you will receive talks from guest speakers and former students. We also take students on trips and these can be fully funded depending on your household’s income. Trips include going to forest school, Children’s Library, Disneyland Paris, London as well as trips to local pantomimes and Universities as well as taking you to UCAS conventions.We do ask all students to purchase a branded polo shirt for placement. University, voluntary and work experience opportunities are supported by our dedicated staff team to further your career.
